πŸ’§ A community map of places offering free drinking water in Malaysia. Bring your bottle, skip the plastic.

Why this exists

About

When I was young, fast food restaurants gave you water for free. You asked, and it came. Nobody thought twice about it.

Not anymore. Somewhere along the way it quietly stopped, and free water became rare β€” a glass of plain water is now something you buy, or go without.

So this is a map of the places that still say yes.

FreeWaterSpot collects spots across Malaysia where you can drink or refill without paying: dispensers at airports and malls, restaurants that still serve free air kosong, parks, places of worship, and anywhere else that simply hands it over.

Hopefully one day it’s the other way round β€” free water so ordinary again that the only thing worth mapping is the places that still make you pay.

How it works

  • Anyone can submit a spot. Every submission is reviewed by hand before it appears on the map.
  • Each listing carries a badge saying how well we know it: editor-verified (someone went), verified (confirmed from a menu or a source we trust), or unverified (a plausible candidate nobody has checked yet). We would rather admit that than guess.
  • See something wrong β€” a place closed down, or the water isn’t actually free? Use the Report this spot button on any listing.
